client: Milwaukee Public Library
project: Brochures for Betty Brinn Children’s Room at Central Library
about: The Milwaukee Public Library (MPL) reached out to me in need of two brochure designs that introduce Central Library’s beautiful Betty Brinn Children’s Room. One brochure was to be targeted toward adults, and the other geared to children. Years ago, Wisconsin children’s author and illustrator, Lois Ehlert (1934–2021), worked closely with MPL in designing this room, and it showcases her whimsical animal illustrations throughout. I worked closely with MPL staff to conceptualize and design brochures that are inviting, informational, and unique to the Betty Brinn Children’s Room. Ehlert’s fun cutouts are featured, along with a color palette inspired by her work. I selected photos from MPL’s collection that showcase the Betty Brinn Children’s Room, and various happenings in the room. The adult brochure is a tri-fold design and the children’s brochure opens up to reveal a scavenger hunt that highlights the special features of the Betty Brinn Children’s Room. Both designs are inviting and the typesetting and layout easy to navigate.
